UFC Predictions FAQ

Straight answers to the questions fight fans ask most about picking fights, scoring and odds.

How do you predict a UFC fight?

Start with how each fighter wins and loses. Compare striking volume and accuracy, takedown offense against takedown defense, finishing rate, cardio over three or five rounds, and quality of past opponents. Then look at the style matchup, because a great wrestler facing weak takedown defense matters more than either fighter's overall record.

What stats matter most in UFC predictions?

The most useful numbers are significant strikes landed and absorbed per minute, striking accuracy and defense, takedown average and takedown defense, submission attempts, and finish rate. Age, reach, layoff time and recent damage taken add context that the raw numbers miss.

How accurate are UFC predictions?

Betting favorites win roughly two out of three UFC fights, so any model worth following needs to beat that mark or find value on underdogs. No one predicts MMA perfectly. Small gloves and many ways to win make it one of the most unpredictable sports there is.

How does UFC scoring work?

Three judges score each round on the 10-point must system. The round winner gets 10 and the loser usually gets 9. A dominant round can be scored 10-8. Judges weigh effective striking and grappling first, then aggression, then cage control.

What is the difference between a unanimous, split and majority decision?

Unanimous means all three judges picked the same winner. Split means two judges picked one fighter and the third picked the other. Majority means two judges picked a winner and the third scored it a draw.

How many rounds is a UFC fight?

Standard fights are three rounds of five minutes each. Main events and title fights are five rounds of five minutes.

What does KO/TKO mean?

A KO is when a fighter is knocked unconscious. A TKO is when the referee, doctor or corner stops the fight because a fighter can no longer defend themselves.

How do UFC betting odds work?

A minus number is the favorite and shows how much you must bet to win $100. A plus number is the underdog and shows how much you win on a $100 bet. So -200 means bet $200 to win $100, and +170 means a $100 bet wins $170.

Does reach matter in the UFC?

It helps, mostly for fighters who strike from distance and use a jab. It matters far less against pressure fighters and wrestlers who close the gap, so reach should be read alongside style.

How do you predict what round a fight ends in?

Look at each fighter's own history. Fighters who finish early tend to keep finishing early, and fighters who fade late tend to get stopped late. Durability, weight class and pace matter too, since heavier divisions end by knockout far more often.

Are UFC underdogs worth betting on?

Sometimes. Underdogs win about a third of the time, so the question is whether the price is better than the fighter's real chance. Live underdogs often have one clear path to victory, such as knockout power or a big wrestling edge.

How does FightIQ make its picks?

FightIQ breaks down every fight on the card using publicly available stats and fight history from UFC.com, ESPN, Sherdog and Tapology. That includes newer prospects from Dana White's Contender Series. Each pick comes with a predicted winner, method and round based on how each fighter has actually finished fights.

Does FightIQ cover every fight on the card?

Yes. Every bout is covered, from the early prelims to the main event. A pick is only held back when a fighter's data fails our checks, and it goes up once the data is fixed.
